Child Abuse Prevention

Blue Ribbon Logo When Communities Nurture, Children Grow.

Formed in 2002, the Community Services Council (CSC) is Siskiyou's designated Child Abuse Prevention Council. CSC is a non-profit organization whose primary goal is the prevention and reduction of child abuse and neglect in Siskiyou County. The CSC takes a "root cause" approach to child abuse prevention, understanding that successful efforts must address the social, economic, health and education causes in an integrated and comprehensive manner. Current Siskiyou County's child abuse and neglect statistics are 3 times that of the state of California as a whole.

Providing education and support to families before abuse and trauma occurs is a primary prevention strategy. Studies show those who have experienced abuse as a child are much more likely to engage in future delinquency and as much as 40% more likely to engage in adult criminality.

The Siskiyou Community Services Council provides programs in local communities, including parenting education, relapse prevention and inmate education to prevent child abuse and neglect.
